The New York Times Book of Antiques (1972) by Betsy Wade and Marvin D. Schwartz. Condition is good. Dust jacket has some discoloration and bending at the top. Cover and pages are in great condition.
For the antiques collector there are few sources of information that are both reliable and usable. Museums exhibit stunning examples of pieces from all. periods and styles, but rarely, if ever, advise on how to buy from dealers or how to authenticate purchases. For their part, too many dealers will -to make the sale- tell the prospective customer what he wants to hear, not what he needs to know. And existing books on antiques generally either confuse the reader with terminological overkill or fail to answer the most basic questions.
The New York Times Book of Antiques fills the chasm, combining history, details of period, style, and manufacture, and purchasing tips, so that the aspiring collector can approach the field confidently.
