Excellent: Book is in like new or is new.

Very Good: Book has been read, but has no signs of wear. No bent edges, highlighting, torn covers, etc.

Good: Book may have some rubbed edges or bent pages, but no damage.

Fair: Book may have highlighting or writing on the pages, torn cover, or overall wear. Still readable.

Poor: Book may have significant highlighting, pages separated from the spine, torn pages, or extreme wear on the cover.
There is a signature or name on the first page of my book. Is that a defect?
Older used books usually have the original owners' name written on the inside of the book. Because this was such a common practice, we don't consider it to be a defect.
